THE COMPANY

Hustle Fund is a pre-seed fund with a distributed team. Our core investment strategy is to invest in teams who demonstrate relentless speed at the earliest stages.

Our first step is working closely with early stage founders to monitor their speed/execution before qualifying their startups for our larger checks. We have 300+ portfolio companies across North America and Southeast Asia.

Our mission is to democratize wealth through startups and we believe that great founders look like anyone and come from anywhere.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a portfolio support manager to spearhead a virtual program for our portfolio called Redwood School.

Redwood School is a cohort-based program that combines education, community, and mentorship to teach founders early stage marketing tactics.

As manager, your role is to oversee and operate all aspects of Redwood School. This includes:

  • Handling all communications - both written and verbal
  • Cultivating relationships among founders and mentors
  • Maintaining a high-quality curriculum around early stage marketing tactics (we’ll help you with this)
  • Communicating key insights with the Hustle Fund team
  • Creating value for the Hustle Fund portfolio

Redwood School is a virtual, cohort-based program, with 30-50 portfolio companies making up one cohort.

You will report to the Head of Marketing, who is based in California. While it’s ok to be remote, you must be willing to work largely during the Pacific Timezone.

THE CAREER PATH

The program that you will be managing plays an important role in the success of Hustle Fund and of the Hustle Fund portfolio companies. You will heavily influence investment decisions and will gain insights into our portfolio companies’ growth trajectories.

While we will have a playbook that you can use to run Redwood School, you will also have an opportunity to make it your own.

Over time, we see this role involved in the larger mission of supporting startup founders in the Hustle Fund family.

We also believe that the position will set you up for success as an Angel Investor, founder, operator, marketer, and/or community manager.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Manage Portfolio Communications:
You will manage all communications relating to Redwood School. Anything that needs to be written, you will write it. This includes: inviting companies to participate, answering questions, making introductions between mentors and mentees, all website content, etc.

Mentor Program Management:
You will source and onboard new mentors, maintain relationships with existing mentors, and create / maintain content relating to the mentorship program. You will also be responsible for matching mentors with mentees, based on criteria like areas of expertise, industry experience, etc.

Curriculum Management and Development:
You will use the existing Redwood School playbook to deliver content to the cohort. You will also update the curriculum to include the most relevant, tactical, and polished content available.

Live Events:
Part of Redwood School involves a live event component, where we bring in topic experts to teach us relevant marketing tactics. You will be responsible for booking the speakers, making sure they are prepared for their talks, and moderating the events.

Improving the Program:
After you run Redwood School at least once, we would love to hear what changes you think should be made to improve it. This could mean changing up the content, tweaking the format, or implementing new ways to track the cohort’s progress. The ultimate goal is for you to own the program as your project.

QUALITIES YOU HAVE

Hustle: You’re someone who doesn’t let a lack of resources get in your way; you use what you have to get further, and be faster than those with more resources and experiences. We are a startup ourselves. If you’re looking for a cushy VC job, this is not the right place.

People Skills: You are a nice person with a high emotional intelligence. You are empathetic, open-minded, and quickly develop strong connections with others. You are collaborative, reliable, and able to navigate relationships in the startup ecosystem. Kindness is a must to work on the Hustle Fund team.

Detail Oriented: You can juggle many projects at once, reliably carry projects over the finish line, and love when things are alphabetized.

Communication Skills: You are an excellent communicator, both online and offline. Online, you know how to deliver a message succinctly but without sacrificing your personality. And offline, you can read your audience skillfully, understanding how to engage an audience without getting off topic. You can work with difficult people (hopefully not at Hustle Fund), but sometimes you will need to interact with challenging people outside of the org.

Prior Experience: You have 2-3 years of professional experience that serves as good preparation for community management, event planning, content creation, and operations.
Some level of marketing or community experience at a startup is highly desirable.

Academic Background: We’re open to a wide range of academic backgrounds.

Languages: You’re fluent in English.

Skills: You’re comfortable with Google Suite, including Mail, Calendar, Drive, Sheets, Slides, etc. Bonus points for familiarity with MailChimp, Slack, and Circle.
