About the job

About Us

We believe in a future where products are crafted, quality comes first, and real people make the things we use instead of giant factories. We also believe that today’s challenges need to be solved by people and companies, rather than relying on the government.

Hive is building the first online marketplace that makes it easy to buy what you believe in. We curate brands who craft excellent products (delicious foods, household goods that really do the job) while improving the world around us. We practice carbon neutral shipping that is fast and free.  And we make our impact visible to shoppers while ensuring our partners uphold their high standards. Our mission is to build a company that not only earns financial profits, but also improves people’s lives and the planet.

We are self-funded, with a seasoned leadership team that has built businesses such as Freshpet, Jet.com, BarkBox, and Casper. This is an opportunity to join an exciting, high potential venture pre-Series A.

We’re looking to hire a Product Designer to join the Hive team as we build out our product organization. As the Lead Product Designer, you’ll work closely with our Product Manager to guide the entire product development process, from strategic planning and visioning to end-to-end thinking, creating intuitive designs and launching meaningful experiences. You will build a team around you of designers in service of making Hive Brands a more intuitive, engaging, and performative experience.

Our ideal candidate has a strong background building experiences for e-commerce that are both effective and beautiful. They are able to strike a balance between solving for user needs, pushing for an elegant solution, and driving meaningful impact for the business. This role will work closely with the executive team and other cross functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Design new features and updates across the entire digital product experience
  • Collaborate on the product roadmap, working closely with our product manager and CCO
  • Translate complex ideas into visually elegant, user-friendly designs based on in-depth research and testing
  • Lead the design org, working closely with engineers and product managers to define problems, map user flows, prototype interactions and launch new features.
  • Advocate for the user, and provide input into user research needs
  • Grow a team of designers to support your vision
  • Stay on top of e-commerce best practices and trends to apply to our site
  • Monitor performance and make recommendations to continue to evolve our site experience
  • Develop landing pages for use in key marketing initiatives

What we’re looking for:

  • 10+ years professional experience with end-to-end digital product design (research, wireframes, flow diagrams, storyboards, mockups and/or high fidelity prototypes), preferably in e-commerce
  • You have a strong understanding of interaction design concepts
  • You’ve developed a strong grasp on best practices and what drives performance for e-comm/DTC businesses, and enjoy staying up to date on the latest trends
  • You have a passion for building engaged, high-performing teams
  • You take a highly collaborative, ‘get it done’ approach - someone who is solution oriented and willing to make concessions for the good of the team
  • You have experience  balancing long-term design goals with a quick, iterative development process
  • You’re a strong communicator, and can clearly sell in and document design decisions for stakeholders
  • You have an excellent sense of typography, layout, and general design principles
  • You have strong systems thinking, information architecture and visual design skills
  • You are detail oriented, but able to iterate quickly
  • You are comfortable digging into data to make design decisions and monitor performance
  • You have a deep passion for building a more sustainable and socially responsible world
  • You’re a problem solver, and you love a good challenge: if something hasn’t been done before, even better. You love to think creatively and push outside the box.
  • You’re as comfortable working autonomously as you are collaborating with a team
