Social Media Coordinator

Department: Marketing and Content

Supervisor: Sr. Manager, Digital Marketing

Principal Function:

The Social Media Coordinator will support the Celtics Marketing team with a specific focus on digital content and social platforms across distribution channels. This role supports content creation and implementation for Celtics owned channels and includes live coverage of Celtics games and events related to the business.

We are looking for a creator, a candidate with a passion for storytelling through a sports lens, and someone who finds new ways to continue to push us to be outstanding! The ideal candidate is experienced in social media, emerging technology, and the latest trends. Passion about and knowledge of the topics that intersect with basketball — music, pop culture, fashion — are preferred.

This role has experience in social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, TikTok, and emerging platforms. Ability to navigate and prioritize in ever-changing, fast-paced environments is important. Knowledge of basketball and the Celtics is helpful.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the implementation of social media and content strategies

  • Assisting in maintaining the day-to-day editorial calendar across owned channels

  • Working with the social media team to create compelling content to drive engagement and support revenue-driving initiatives

  • Working closely with Social Media Manager and Sr. Manager, Digital Marketing to identify new opportunities to create engaging content

  • Ensuring all content is on brand and consistent in quality and voice

  • Attend project-specific and departmental meetings to support the marketing and content department in understanding business goals (engagement, content monetization, ticket sales and partnerships and community engagement)

  • Support various corporate partnerships projects to execute sellable content opportunities and ensure partner goals are met

  • Participate in sharing outstanding content and trends across sports social media

  • Support social media manager in crafting social media updates during games, practices and ad hoc events •Perform additional duties as needed by the marketing department

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • A minimum of two (2+) years working in digital marketing

  • Experience working in a fast-paced sports, or brand/agency and ability to respond quickly to breaking team news and transactions •DSLR photography experience is helpful

  • A strong understanding of platforms, specifically Facebook/Instagram, Twitter and YouTube

  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere, Photoshop and After Effects

  • Familiarity with video editing tools is helpful

  • Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint & Windows)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Professional-level writing skills

  • Knowledge of Celtics franchise is preferred

  • Strong passion for creative social media

  • Appreciation for basketball culture and history

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excitement for experimentation and learning

  • Tech savvy—you are a self-learner and can proactively learn new and up and coming platforms

  • A desire to understand analytics and how they play a role in overall social media strategy

  • Attitude for growth is a requirement – to find solutions and share constructive feedback

 

Location: Boston, MA (office), attendance at all home games, other off-site events, travel is TBD.

Hours: This position requires constant attention due to the continuous nature of the news cycle. Regular office hours (8:30am- 5:30pm MF), plus overtime when necessary. Availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays to meet timelines as needed. Social media and sports are always on, so flexibility and availability are key.
