Buzzer is a new mobile-only platform that provides curated short-form access to live sports content so fans never have to miss a moment. We are seeking an experienced Director of Marketing who can effectively balance brand strategy and marketing campaign execution to launch and scale Buzzer’s direct-to-consumer reach, especially to Gen Z and Millennial users. Equally important, this candidate must be experienced in driving growth within a start-up environment, focusing on the structures, team development and resources required to drive quality installs quickly and responsibly. 

The candidate will be responsible for codifying and amplifying Buzzer’s brand with end consumers, delivering on product marketing with B2B partners, driving user acquisition and engagement, including channel strategy development and execution of app download campaigns, owning the P&L including results-based evaluation of key initiatives and media planning, and cross collaboration with other groups to test new features and tactics to meet growth targets. Ultimately, this leader will define Buzzer’s earliest launch campaigns across creative, communications, channel strategy (including social, email, podcast and other content creation), media planning, PR integration and campaign execution to set the foundation for future marketing growth and iterations.

This person must have a strong understanding of the current sports media landscape and a passion for sports in general to establish Buzzer’s positioning and build community among consumers and the industry. As the leader of an evolving team, this individual must be values-led and prepared to create an internal talent and partner plan to invest in the growth and success of our people. Buzzer is presently a fully distributed company, which will require this individual to be collaborative, proactive, and comfortable working remotely. The candidate will report directly to the CEO and Founder, as well as work very closely and collaboratively with business leaders across Design, Product, Business Development, Partnership Management, Operations, Engineering and others to ensure success. 

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience of successful marketing strategy and execution resulting in tangible user growth and positive brand sentiment

  • Experience developing and evolving a brand at an early stage company with proven growth in awareness and consumer adoption

  • Experience managing the brand strategy and activation of a D2C company

  • Experience working directly with Brand and Creative teams to deliver on messaging, creative development, and positioning targets

  • Experience as a marketing leader or active advisor to an early stage consumer technology and mobile applications (iOS and Android)

  • Experience marketing products and services in the sports industry, both to consumers and B2B product marketing 

  • Agile and fluid marketer with test and learn mentality to rapidly iterate on findings

  • Results-oriented with a proven record of performing against aggressive growth targets

  • Experience defining and managing a marketing budget across various channels

  • A track record of building high-performing teams - attracting, developing, and retaining the best marketing talent

  • Strong oral and written skills with the ability to present ideas, insights and results to senior management and the broader team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience launching new products to market

  • Direct-to-consumer platform and/or streaming product experience a plus

  • Experience analyzing attribution and analytical tools to understand strategy efficacy (experience with Looker is a plus)

  • Driven by consistent reflection and data analysis to continuously improve the Buzzer product experience

  • Ability to think creatively and succeed in unconventional environments

  • Ability to gain internal support, operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, and establish a solid working relationship with senior management and department heads
